Mr. Dobbins received his Bachelor of Architecture degree from the University of Texas at Austin with undergraduate study in Civil Engineering at the University of Missouri at Columbia. He is a registered Architect in the State of Texas.
Mr. Dobbins, as founder of DOBBINS+CROW Architects, has directed the architectural practice toward projects that are diverse in function and in design. His career emphasis has been a dedication to aesthetic design.
Mr. Dobbins' experience includes extensive concentration toward high-end custom residences, commercial office space planning and office buildings. These projects include work in Fort Worth, Dallas, Houston, Austin, and South Texas.
The majority of the firm’s work is in custom residential design. Mr. Dobbins extensive knowledge in historic styles and experience in integrating complex sites has resulted in homes that achieve distinctive architectural presence. Mr. Dobbins’ goal is to listen to the client’s needs and mold the vision into an aesthetic statement that exceeds all expectations. Custom residential designs include new residences and renovations in the Fort Worth areas of Westover Hills, Rivercrest, Monticello, Park Hill, and Colonial. He has also designed residences in Austin, Houston, and Aspen, Colorado.
Mr. Dobbins' commercial design experience also includes corporate headquarters, bank facilities, specialty retail/restaurant complexes, high-rise office buildings, high-rise condominiums, multi-family residential, and commercial warehouse projects. Interior space design projects include law firms, banks, an advertising firm, a city hall, and a penthouse in the Sundance West Tower. Industrial and institutional experience includes research laboratories, municipal police/jail facilities, city halls, and recreation centers.
Prior to founding his own practice, Mr. Dobbins was Design Coordinator at the award-winning firm of Howard Barnstone, FAIA, Architects in Houston, Texas. Particular firm recognition included two National Architecture Honor Awards and several Texas Architecture Honor Awards for design merit. Mr. Dobbins’ major involvement was in the design of custom residences located in distinctive areas of Houston, such as River Oaks and Shadyside.
Mr. Dobbins moved to Fort Worth and served as Director of Project Development for a large architectural firm and acted as lead commercial designer. His designs include University Centre II, a ten-story office tower in Fort Worth, and Travis Walk Specialty Center, a three-story Classical Revival office/retail center in Highland Park, Dallas.
Mr. Dobbins' exposure to the complex demands of commercial architecture and to the intricate detail of residential design, enables him to bring a unique perspective to projects of all scales.
Collaborative works published in periodicals consists of Travis Walk Specialty Center, Dallas, Schlumberger Well Services, Austin, the Bramlett Residence, Houston, and DeSaligny Condominiums, Austin, in Texas Architect Magazine, and the Peterkin Residence in Ultra Magazine.
